Ok, here's a quick scoop on what actually happened to me. We've been waiting for the formal
press release regarding Kuju Manila's closure. And it finally happened.
We've been notified of closure since January 13. Normally, companies close down as soon as the closure is announced like in other parts of the world. However, in the Philippines we have a law that states we need a month's notice of closure. So, our official halt of operations will be on Friday, February 13, 2010. (I guess there ain't no Valentine's for us)
On other news, the sister company of my old studio, Matahari Studios Indonesia, closes down as well. Their official closure will be on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. I feel sad for the Matahari Studios Indonesia (MSI) team. They were a good bunch of people when I spent a month working with the team there. I wish we all get a better opportunity ahead.
So kids, let this be a lesson to you. Like any company, Game Companies also close down. It even has a higher rate of closure as compared to Software Companies. If "Stability," is one of your prime factors in getting to a job. Think again. The Games Industry might not be for you.
As for me, well I'm fine and I've expected this kind of thing to happen. The true test to my situation now is getting to a better job in the Games Industry.
